Next month the exhibition Hanga EHON: Handprinted Books will present an international collection of handmade printed books as part of the 1st International Mokuhanga Conference taking place in Kyoto and Awaji, Japan.

Printmaking is an integral part of bookmaking and book art, and mokuhanga — Japanese woodblock printing — has flourished for centuries. Mokuhanga usually conjures to mind images of the ukiyo-e tradition, but it was also widely used to print books. The Mokuhanga Conference celebrates the history and tradition of this print form as well as explores innovative and contemporary applications. As the inaugural conference, this event is an exciting opportunity for practitioners and aficionados of mokuhanga to meet, exchange, and collaborate.

Registration is open through May 31. Details here.
